Biography

Magdalena emigrated from Hainaut, Walloon Region, Belgium to New Netherland with her husband and children on 12 Feb 1659 aboard the ship De Trouw. Her father's name was Lodowycks Van Der Straaten, of whom nothing further is known. Court minutes from 12 Jul 1663 contain the following:

"Lubbert Gerritsen and Marie Taine declare, by request of Nelis Matthyssen, that they heard Madalena Lodewycks say, at said Madalena's house, that Barentien Dircks had stolen the pork of Jacob Brouwer, which was in a nootas by the oven door. The court condemn defendant to pay, for the needs of the poor, 6 gl. and the costs of suit." [1]

Magdalena died after the 13 Jun 1678, when her husband's will was proved.[1]

"Magdalena Van der Straaten born in 1620 deceased after 13 June 1678, married in 1639 to Simon de Ruyne, born in 1615, deceased 12 June 1678 - Flushing, Queens Co., NY aged 63 years old." [2]

Van Der Straaten-1 and Van der Straaten-2 appear to represent the same person because:

Hi,

It looks like these probably are the same and should be merged, the marriage with Jan Gerritsen Dorlant probably isn't correct ?(no sources for it)..

Removed Elias Dorland as her son , she was not his mother.

I found info on Ancestry.com, several family trees shows she was wife of (Lambert)Lubbert Gerritsen. I could find no more info connecting the two until this mention of the "court minutes". Do you have anything else to help me out?
